Building & Development

Building permits are essential for ensuring that all construction projects in the Town of Radisson meet local safety, zoning, and building standards.

The Town of Radisson follows provincial building codes and local bylaws designed to promote safe, sustainable, and well-planned development. The permitting process includes a review of your construction plans, inspections during key stages of the project, and final approval upon completion.

Residents and developers are encouraged to contact the Town Office early in their planning process to understand requirements, timelines, and any additional regulations that may apply. By working closely with the Town of Radisson, you can ensure your project proceeds smoothly, complies with all regulations, and contributes positively to the community.

Town of Radisson Building Bylaw Overview (Bylaw No. 2024-02)

The Town of Radisson’s Building Bylaw establishes the rules and standards for construction and building development within town limits, ensuring safety, compliance, and orderly growth. This bylaw is enacted under The Construction Codes Act and aligns with provincial legislation, the National Building Code of Canada (NBC), and the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB).

What the Building Bylaw Covers:

  • Permit Requirements: A building permit is required for most construction, renovations, demolitions, or changes in occupancy. Work must not begin until a permit is issued.
  • Application Process: Applicants must submit drawings, a site plan, and pay associated fees. Depending on the scope, licensed professionals (e.g., engineers or architects) may be required.
  • Inspections & Approvals: Inspections are required at various stages of construction. An Occupancy Certificate must be issued before the building can be used.
  • Permit Expiry & Revocation: Permits may expire if work doesn’t start or is paused for extended periods. The Town can also revoke permits if work is non-compliant.
  • Enforcement & Penalties: Failure to comply may result in Orders to Comply, fines, or legal action.
  • Special Conditions: Larger or more complex buildings must meet additional design and review standards.
